Vik and Dan’s September wedding was such an emotional one, I was afraid whatever I wrote just wasn’t going to do it justice. I think everybody knows that these two are absolutely made for each other (and I’m a sucker for a good love story) so I’ve decided to give you an insight through Vikki’s own words. Below is what she read out to Dan in front of a teary crowd before the ceremony started. There wasn’t a dry eye insight and that might have included me!

‘We first met in 2003 when Rockport and stripey jumpers were at the height of fashion. I wore Nike shox small enough to fit a Barbie and you vowed never to wear a pair of jeans even if your life depended on it. We spent 18 months young and carefree, enjoying each other’s company before late teenage years led us in different paths of life. The next 10 years brought me with very unusual and some may say questionable relationships. I often thought about you at that time in my life, about what life would be like if I didn’t let the kind, attentive and thoughtful young lad slip away. Even my family would joke to “get Barlow back” – little did they know I would take this mission seriously. I can’t live to regret those 10 years as they brought with them two beautiful girls, and lots of lessons learnt. The hard times have made me the person I am today, and have made me appreciate the good things that we now share in our life together.

The 10 year gap came to an end at Hayley’s legendary wine party on the 23rd November 2013 when I did a little detective work on good old Facebook. I sent a message saying “hello stranger” and you played it cool, and left it a week to reply. Messages went back and forth until the 7th December. Both on our works Christmas night out you text saying “it would make my Christmas if you met me” which you still deny to this day. Well let me tell you, it made my Christmas my year and my whole life. The first glimpse I caught of you from across dingy and slightly smelly Moss Rose I knew I still loved you and I knew we would spend a lifetime making happy memories together. After a lock in and a 4am walk home I concluded that our first date was perfect. Maybe not the surroundings but the fact we chatted the night away, made each other laugh and picked up where we had left off all those years ago. On the 14th December I was at a loose end, my college friends cancelled dinner and I found myself with a child free night and nowhere to go. I text you and hinted, and hinted again, maybe even a third time. You either didn’t get the hint or more likely were playing hard to get. In the end I text you and asked you on a date – which seems fitting really seen as though I was the one to message you first and propose! We went a bit more upmarket for this date and had lunch at The Swan and Cemetery receiving a free bottle of champagne for just telling the owner our love story. On the way home I convinced you to meet my friends including Hayley McQueeney, Sean Morrison and Amy Boakes. We went to the Spread, you didn’t know a soul and I danced on the tables all night. That’s how I knew you were the one for me, and we’d be together forever.

We continued to be old fashioned and sensible and dated until March 2014 when you met the girls for the very first time. We arranged a brief meeting on the park in Ringley. To break the ice we brought you some mini egg’s, which has become a common theme with the engagement and now you see them here today. We played on the park and fed the ducks. This day will also have a special place in my heart because it’s the day we became a family.

Our proposal might not be conventional but when are we ever? For those who don’t know I proposed to Barlow on the radio (you can tell who wears the trousers in this marriage). We’ve prepared for this day for the past 18 months and I’m so proud to share your last name and finally be a Barlow! We are so lucky to have so many friends and family to help celebrate and share our special day.

We’ve gone from strength to strength as a family of four. You have supported me through the most difficult and testing times of my life – through both college and through university. You’ve doted on the girls and literally given them your all. You’re there to do homework, to do bath time, to do bedtime and to do tickle time. You’re like part of the furniture in my family, it’s like you’ve never been away. And I’m so grateful for the effort you put in with my parents and sisters as they also mean the world to me. Our life isn’t perfect but it’s perfect for us. I look forward to our next chapter as husband and wife. All love stories are beautiful but ours is my favourite.’

Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your special day, I loved every minute and wish you both the biggest, happily ever after xxx
